The first GMT Master II came to market in the 1980s, keeping a similar design as the the original Rolex GMT-Master watch and bringing with it a new movement with an independent GMT hand. This upgrade allows the wearer to read an additional time zone on the dial, bringing the number of time zones that the wearer can read at once up to three. The ref. 116710 is a newer example of the line that features a Super case with broader lugs, a flat-link Oyster bracelet closed by a folding Oysterlock clasp and a 5mm Easylink extension system, a larger luminous Chromalight display on the dial, and a black and blue two-tone ceramic bezel insert.
